P0505 Code: Idle Air Control System Malfunction
A published detailed article is not available for this reference yet.
What the code tells you
A diagnostic trouble code identifies a condition detected by a controller. It does not identify a failed part by itself; confirm the definition for the vehicle and controller involved.
Before diagnosis
Record the VIN, engine, symptoms, all stored codes and freeze-frame data before clearing faults. Follow the manufacturer’s test procedure. If there is overheating, loss of oil pressure, severe misfire or unsafe drivability, stop safely and arrange professional assistance.
Commercial-vehicle applicability
An OBD-II code is not a substitute for a heavy-duty SPN/FMI fault definition. Identify the engine and reporting controller; use the correct service information for that configuration.
